Fagen CONTINUED FROM PAGE 10 shifts in management for Ahold’s pharmacy operations. Replacing him as top pharmacy executive is Jim Wonderly, who was named vice president of pharmacy.

Wonderly, who joined the company in 1992 when Ahold acquired Tops Markets, will also continue to oversee procurement. He most recently was vice president of general merchandise and health and beauty care. He’s credited

as one of the founders, in 1994, of Ahold’s American Sales Company procurement division.

While not a pharmacist, Wonderly was instrumental in the development of a centralized pharmacy buy-ing-model for the multi-

chain company.

Wonderly will report to Ahold executive vice president of strategy and business development Jim Dwyer.

Promoted to vice president of pharmacy operations— and reporting to Wonderly— is Joel Berman, an 18-year

Stop & Shop pharmacy veteran. Berman will head up pharmacy operations at both Stop & Shop and the Giant-Landover division.

To fill the void left by Wonderly’s transition to lead the pharmacy organization, Ahold has promoted Marco Leone to senior director of general merchandise and health and beauty care.

“We are facing the challenges of the marketplace by investing in promotions, advertising and pricing, as well as building closer ties to our newly reset and VIP-priced HBC section,” they added. “We know our customers want the convenience of a pharmacy where they shop for groceries, and at a time when gas prices are at an all-time high, they appreciate not having to make a separate trip. Pharmacy continues to be an enormously important business for us and critically important to the long-term health of our company,” Dwyer and Sussman noted.

More than 25 years ago, Hi-Tech Pharmacal was founded

on a simple business philosophy: generic products may be

identical, but generic companies are not. And from day one,

we were different: focused on pharmacy, building long term

relationships and setting the standard in service.

Today, we’re one of the industry’s largest independent specialty

generic companies with a wide range of products, a dedicated

sterile manufacturing facility and a strong pipeline. And while

we’ve grown, our commitment to you, our pharmacy partner,

has remained constant – and always will.

Walgreens CONTINUED FROM PAGE 6 matchup with Longs Drug Stores. In its newest leap far beyond its roots in the Midwest, the company said it would initially focus on Anchorage and south-central Alaska, although no specific sites have been announced.

“With a fast-growing over- 65 population, the need for pharmacy and related health services is expanding in Alaska,” said William Hose, Walgreens’ recently named vice president of store operations for Alaska. “We’ll help meet those needs with services that are currently hard to find or don’t exist in the market.”

Hose said the chain would work with local vendors to provide products specific to the needs of the Alaska market. “We’ll learn from our local vendors what is important to Alaska’s customers, and that will be reflected in our merchandise offerings,” he said.
